Right next to Prague Castle, Petrin (Pet-zhin) Hill is perfect for a solitary walk. At the top are the Eiffel-like observation tower and manicured gardens, plus a funhouse for kids. Halfway down is a restaurant, Vinarna Nebozizek, where you can enjoy a meal with a view of Prague. There are all kinds of sights to see in this park, including a quaint wooden Orthodox church. If you don't feel like walking, there is a funicular to take you to the top of the hill.
Here I am in the observation tower, enjoying the view.
Jakub used fruit to write "Heather is crazy" all over the sidewalks. Part of the land is set aside for apple and pear orchards, and you can pick the fruit off the trees.
Strahov Monastery is a nice place to walk.

Here's that wooden church I was talking about. Sometime I'll have to add a picture of the Hunger Wall or Hladova zed, another feature of the area. The Hunger Wall, also called the 'Bread Wall', extends across the Petrin hill from Strahov to where Mala Strana meets Smichov. It was built by the poor during the reign of Charles IV as perhaps the first instance of a public works project. |
