Cesky Sternberk, founded 1240, is strategically situated on a rise above the river Sazava. From the middle of the 13th century until 1949, the castle was almost continually the properrty of the Sternberg family. During communism, the nobleman Sternberg was reduced to working as a guide in his castle, which was returned to the family in 1991.
From a distance. The roads there curve and wind, and you can see the castle from a long way away. We kept stopping the Skoda so I could take pictures.
Because we got there late, we couldn't go inside. But we had a fine time exploring the grounds, climbing towers, and hiking hills in the twilight.

The upside of the fall was discovering this cool stone hut.
